I am the husband of one beautiful woman and the father of two beautiful daughters. I make really good pizza, tomato sauce, pasta, pot roast, and Mexican food. Besides my culinary skills, I have a great interest in Theology and the Church. I have a BA from Ottawa University, an MDiv from Fuller Theological Seminary, and I am continually learning something.

A fourth generation Nazarene, I have been in vocational ministry since 1999. I have deep roots at Scottsdale Nazarene – Years ago my grandparents (Jack and Erva Verner) were active members, my parents (Bob and Jackie) were married here, and other family and friends have been important parts of Scottsdale First. It is an honor to be at a church with such a rich history!

Home Town: Arizona native; born in the White Mountains, grew up and spent most of my life in the Phoenix area.

Spouse’s name & where you met: Shar and I met in Junior High, began dating early in High School, and never really stopped.

Kids: Two awesome daughters: Courtney & Kiersten

Likes: Spending time with my family, eating fresh peaches, fly fishing, and enjoying the beauty of our world.

Favorite Movies/TV: The Princess Bride, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, The Incredibles, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Good Eats, Dirty Jobs, Planet Earth, and The Bob Newhart Show.

Good Reads: The Blue Parakeet, Relational Holiness, The Myth of a Christian Nation, Silas Marner, More Ready than you Realize, The Shack, The Ascent of a Leader, A Series of Unfortunate Events series, Harry Potter, nearly anything by C.S. Lewis or N.T. Wright (especially Surprised by Hope), and many many more.

iTunes: Quite a variety: from U2 to Les Miserables to Alison Krauss to The Black Keys. My favorites include King’s X, The Choir, The Avett Brothers, Sufjan Stevens, The Decembrists, and, when on a fly fishing trip, John Denver.
